Haunted Mansion Mary by BetterthanBunnies
Haunted Mansion Mary
"Is this haunted room actually...stretching?  Or is it your imagination, hmm?"  Actually, I think this room is getting cuter, it makes me kinda wish the Haunted Mansion was themed Mary Poppins.  They could call it "Mary's Mansion" and they could turn on all the lights and there would be flowers everywhere and people would ride umbrellas over rooftops.  Why is this not a thing?  Someone make this happen.

I spent my Christmas vacation drawing this, which means it was the best vacation ever :) :)  Hope you all had a jolly holiday!

Happy New Year, yeh ol' yahoos!  I hope your holiday was a good one ^_^

{I stayed up until midnight!}

{Almost.}

{Eeeeh who needs midnight anyway?}

I've been thinking about my New Years goals these past couple of weeks, and art, and design-life things.  One of the design principles I learned in school is that Big, Medium, and Small put together make appealing design.  I've noticed that's true for balance in life, too--I have to have my day job (big) and freelance (medium) and then stuff I do just for myself (small).

So, think about the art goals you're making for this year, and group them into those three categories!  Then, post them below.  I'd love to hear them!

Here are mine:

BIG - Create 2 3-minute animatics for my portfolio.  {I've been wanting to do this for years.}
MEDIUM - Post more on my blog
SMALL - Practice drawing in some form for 1 hour every day {drawing, boards, speedpaints, etc}

I hope you all are doing well, and I have the best wishes for you all in 2015!

Cinderella and the Prince by BetterthanBunnies
Cinderella and the Prince
I read that in the early developments of "Cinderella," the Grand Duke brings her back to the Palace and when they arrive, the Prince comes running out to greet her.  He doesn't care at all that she's in rags.

Gosh!  I thought that was sweet.  So of course I had to draw it :) :)

My goodness, your style is so refined and lovely! Do tell, what does your art education consist of (besides plenty of practice, of course)? :)

Why thank you!

This is a good question.  I got my animation degree at BYU, where a learned a lot of great things--storyboard tools, photoshop, how to draw, really--and a little bit of Maya.  {VERY little...I've forgotten all of it now!}  A lot of my learning also came on-the-job, with people I worked with.  I had an internship where I animated in AfterEffects, and my office mate taught me how to use it.  And I still use it today!  And, in all the jobs since, my coworkers have been very helpful in giving me tips and advice.

I would say the biggest help of course is just practicing every day--I try to spend 45 min - an hour either speedpainting or drawing from books and pinterest.  Doing fanart is a good help too.  There are so many crazy good artists out there, it's a blast to try and emulate them!  And, drawing artwork for fun and DA or a blog is a great help too!

Lol.  That was probably a longer answer than you wanted!  But that's what's helped me ^_^
